Yemen Calls UN Ceasefire Resolution a First Step Toward Permanent Peace in Gaza
New York – Yemen’s UN representative, Abdullah Ali Fadhel Al-Saadi, speaking on behalf of the Arab Group, welcomed the passage of the UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate Gaza ceasefire during Ramadan, calling it a first step toward a binding and lasting ceasefire.
Arab Group Backs Ceasefire and Hostage Release
Al-Saadi praised the 14-member support for the resolution and emphasized that pushing for a ceasefire does not contradict calls for releasing all hostages. He stressed the need for swift and full compliance with the resolution.
Accusations Against Israel: Genocide and Starvation
The Arab Group, he said, firmly condemns the ongoing Israeli military campaign, which he described as a “genocidal war” targeting civilians, including women and children. He accused Israeli forces of using starvation as a weapon of war, urging the Council to act decisively.
Call for Sanctions and Greater Palestinian Protection
Al-Saadi called on the UN Security Council to impose strict sanctions on Israeli settlers inciting violence against Palestinians, especially in Jerusalem. He stressed the urgent need to:
- Achieve an immediate ceasefire
- Ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid
- End the forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza
- Provide international protection for Palestinian civilians
Recognition of Palestine and Accountability for Israel
Yemen reiterated the Arab Group’s demand that Israel be held accountable for war crimes, and urged the international community to recognize Palestine as a full UN member state.
