PCB Chairman Urged to Resign After Pakistan’s Cricket Collapse
Kamran Akmal Criticizes PCB Leadership
Former cricketer Kamran Akmal has voiced strong criticism against Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, urging him to resign if he cannot bring improvements to the national team.
“If you can’t fix the system, it’s better to step down,” Akmal stated during a post-match analysis.
Series Loss Despite Strong Start
Pakistan’s poor run in international cricket continued as they lost the ODI series to New Zealand, despite taking a 2-0 lead.
In the final match, Pakistan suffered a heavy 84-run defeat, sealing the series loss and adding more pressure on the team and its leadership.
Champions Trophy Exit Adds to Woes
The series loss came shortly after Pakistan’s early exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where the team failed to win even a single match.
Before the ODI series, Pakistan had already lost the T20I series 4-1 to the same New Zealand side, marking one of the lowest points in recent cricket history.
Akmal Highlights Key Team Flaws
- Bowling Discipline Lacking
Kamran Akmal criticized the bowling unit, saying the bowlers lacked control over line and length. He called for fresh talent to be introduced to bring consistency and discipline back into the attack. - Batting Collapse Again
Pakistan’s top and middle order failed miserably in the final ODI. The team was reduced to 65/6 by the 21st over.
However, Faheem Ashraf (73 off 80) and Naseem Shah (51 off 44) helped the team recover to a total of 208. - Over-Reliance on Lower Order
Akmal emphasized that relying on Naseem Shah, a bowler, for runs highlights the batting lineup’s failure. “He’s a bowler, not a finisher. That tells you everything,” he remarked.
