Berlin’s Friedrichstadt-Palast has enlisted American fashion designer Jeremy Scott for its upcoming cabaret-style revue, with previews starting on September 24 and the world premiere on October 8. Scott will create around 500 costumes for the new Grand Show, titled “Blinded by Delight,” which promises to be “a reminder of happiness that overwhelms all the senses.”
The theatre praised Scott’s “unique flair for fashion” and his ability to blend haute couture with pop culture. Scott expressed his vision: “Fashion is, for me, a form of escapism to another world—a place where you can forget your troubles. My designs are filled with dreams and love, aiming to inspire and enchant guests’ imaginations.”
The show is based on an idea by Oliver Hoppmann and Berndt Schmidt, the theatre’s general director and producer. Schmidt described “Blinded by Delight” as a touching love story that transports guests into beautiful, surreal dream worlds, emphasizing the importance of joy in challenging times. He expressed excitement about collaborating with Scott, stating that Scott’s journey proves that dreams can come true with belief.
Scott follows in the illustrious footsteps of Jean Paul Gaultier, who designed the current show, “Falling | In Love.” The Grand Shows at Friedrichstadt-Palast feature over 100 performers from 28 nations, including singers, dancers, and acrobats, utilizing the largest stage in Europe.
Having recently stepped down as creative director of Moschino, Scott is no stranger to theatrics, known for transforming runways into vibrant spectacles. “Blinded by Delight” has an estimated production budget of nearly 14 million euros and is set to run for at least a year.
Scott, a Pratt Institute graduate, launched his signature brand in Paris in 1997, which has been on hiatus since 2019. He has collaborated with various brands, including Longchamp and Adidas, known for his eccentric designs featuring teddy bears and cow prints. During the pandemic, he also ventured into filmmaking, directing a musical for Moschino’s resort 2022 collection.
